A universal right to clean toilets.
LesToilettes.com is the first French community platform that rates, maps and analyzes in real time the state of public and private toilets accessible to all. Our conviction: finding clean, dignified and accessible toilets should not be a privilege.
Our mission
Every day, millions of people find themselves urgently searching for accessible toilets. Mothers with babies, pregnant women, people with disabilities, travelers, the elderly, those with chronic conditions: for them, accessing dignified toilets is not a comfort, it's a necessity.
Yet information about the real state of these places remains opaque. Restrooms in restaurants, train stations, malls, town halls, public parks are often found by chance, and their state (cleanliness, equipment, accessibility) can only be verified on site — sometimes too late.
LesToilettes.com addresses this problem with a simple but radical approach: community transparency. Each user can rate, report, photograph and map the toilets they use. The result is a living database, updated in real time, free and accessible to all.
Why this project
The idea of LesToilettes.com was born from a shared frustration: never knowing, before entering, whether the toilets of a place will be clean, equipped, accessible. A banal situation that becomes critical for young parents, women during their periods, travelers in transit, people with disabilities, or simply urbanites in a hurry.
Our founder Jean-Michel BONI, software engineer and father, decided in 2026 to transform this frustration into a concrete tool. The project is carried by Jemitilabz, an independent French studio specialized in citizen platforms and mobile apps with high social impact.
Our conviction: dignified public hygiene is a fundamental right. Like Yuka for food products, or Citymapper for transport, LesToilettes.com wants to make legible an opaque reality and empower users.
How we rate
Our rating system is based on 6 objective criteria rated out of 5 by users: general cleanliness, toilet paper, soap/gel, equipment, accessibility, smell. A consolidated score — Le Verdict — is calculated by weighting these criteria according to their perceived impact. Conversely, a Shame Score highlights problematic establishments.
We have also added targeted criteria for families (changing table, step stool, baby seat, kids urinal) and for women (hygiene bin, pad dispenser), as these users are the main raters on the platform.
Fighting fake reviews
We apply the French NF Z74-501 standard on online reviews. Each published review goes through an automatic authentication pipeline (geolocation verification at post time, device fingerprint hash, author trust level scoring) and a human moderation system for reported cases. A transparency report is published each quarter with rejection rates, main reasons and processing times.
Business model
LesToilettes.com is 100% free for individuals — it's our founding commitment. The platform is financed through:
- B2B subscriptions for establishments wanting to publicly respond to reviews and improve their listing (€29-99/month depending on plan)
- Public API with CC-BY-4.0 license for third-party integrations (family, transport, accessibility apps) — free up to 1000 requests/day, paid beyond
- Identified sponsorship for municipal and institutional actors — always marked "Sponsored" without hiding the commercial nature
- Contextual advertising (Google AdSense) on certain pages — without individual tracking, in compliance with GDPR
We commit to NEVER reselling users' personal data or monetizing their reviews without their explicit consent.
