For 65+ who want to keep their autonomy everywhere

Senior — Comfort and safety, everywhere

Toilet autonomy is the freedom to go out without worry.

Context

After 65, going out without worrying about an accessible toilet becomes an autonomy issue. This guide is made with and for active seniors — without condescension.

Active spotting

The gesture: Before going out, identify 2-3 toilets on your route. Filter "handrails" + "clean" in the app. You go out more relaxed.

Avoid: Limiting outings "just in case". The app exists for that — use it.

💡 Tip: 3+ star hotels and big stores almost always have clean and publicly accessible toilets.

Access — anti-slip

The gesture: Check the floor. Wet tile = danger. If unsure, wait 10 sec or ask for help. Falling is the #1 senior risk.

Avoid: Forcing your step "I got this". You can handle 1000 times. The 1001st costs 3 months off.

Bowl height

The gesture: An elevated bowl (45-48cm) is the knees' friend. Hotels and wheelchair toilets often have them. OK to look for the best.

Avoid: Squatting on a low bowl "to be fast". Standing back up costs more than 2 mins waiting.

Handrail

The gesture: Use. Always. To sit, to stand. Not weakness — prudence.

Avoid: Grabbing the paper roll or soap dispenser. They give way. You fall. Bad movie.

Hygiene + meds

The gesture: If you take irritating meds (laxatives, antibiotics), keep soft wipes. Comfort = mobility.

Avoid: Silent discomfort. A barrier cream prevents chronic irritation. Talk to your doctor.

Flush — gently

The gesture: If the mechanism is stiff, don't force with the thumb — use the palm. Joint economy.

Avoid: The sharp wrist move that costs you 3 weeks of tendinitis.

Seat — by habit — PLOUF illustration
06

Seat — by habit

The gesture: You lower. More than polite — also safer for the next (visibility, balance).

Avoid: The "later". At 65+, you don't go back to lower it. Now.

Hands — really — PLOUF illustration

Hands — really

The gesture: Take your time. Water, soap, 30 sec. At 65+, immune system is slower — real hygiene compensates.

Avoid: Water alone "by habit". Soap is what detaches germs — water just carries them away.
